Well, my family went on an amazing spontaneous vacation to San Diego for the weekend, but unfortunately while we were gone, we were robbed. They left the jet skis, TVs, Xbox, etc, but emptied the safe that had our social security cards, birth certificates, passports, emergency credit cards, etc. Ugh. 3 entire identities stolen in a flash. Based on my limited experience,
Ways to Avoid Home Robbery
- Don’t be obvious when packing up your car for a vacation, you never know who is watching.
- Don’t keep all of your identifying documents in one place in your home. Consider a safety deposit box or other precaution.
- Make sure your door is properly installed. Apparently our deadbolt was set too far in, so it only went in the frame and not in the stud, making it easy to kick in the door.
- If you find yourself a target for identity theft, check out lifelock.
Have you ever been robbed? What precautions do you take? Any words of wisdom for me?
